It is full of stories of how Joan canned her way through grief after her husband passed away. This summer I gave a box of canning jars with seals to Nancy Ament, who works next door at The Soap Box, a darling shop that smells heavenly!

Nancy's son had picked her some chokecherries and after borrowing my book she brought me back this delightful jar of Colorado Choke Cherry Jelly.

Pumpkin Roll for Afternoon Tea

It's time to pull up your chair and enjoy some lovely Pumpkin Roll..... Do you have a jelly roll pan at home? You must buy one if you don't because so many cakes can be formed into a roll with a filling inside and sliced.

This recipe is made with Libby's canned Pumpkin and was in the Nov/Dec 2007 issue of Southern Lady magazine. This is easy!

Here is what you will need: 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar, 3/4 cup sifted flour, 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ground cloves, 1/4 tsp salt, 3 large eggs, 1 cup sugar, 2/3 cup canned pumpkin. An optional item: 1 cup chopped walnuts

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees, Grease a 15" x 10" jelly roll pan and line with greased and floured wax paper. Sprinkle a cotton towel with confectioners' sugar and set aside. In a small bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves and salt. In a large bowl mix eggs and sugar and beat in pumpkin - then stir in flour mix. Spread this batter over the wax paper smoothly. If you like- sprinkle with 1 cup of chopped walnuts.

Bake about 13 - 15 minutes. Check with a toothpick. When done - turn onto towel and peel off wax paper. Roll up cake and towel together and leave for 15 minutes.

Carefully unroll cake and spread cream cheese filling over cake and re-roll placing end side down on the bottom of a lovely plate or tray. Sprinkle confectioners' sugar on top - I even put some of the filling on top (I skipped the nuts but more could be sprinkled here too!)

Cream Cheese Filling: Beat together in a small bowl: 1 8 oz pkg cream cheese softened, 1 cup confectioners' sugar, 6 Tablespoons softened butter, 1/2 cup pumpkin and 1 tsp vanilla extract

In short this was a desire to restore the glory of the crown as written by George IIIâs father Frederick in a book named, âThe Idea of a Patriot Kingâ which had the basic idea the England needed a monarch to rescue the thrown from the dominance of factions. This meant to minimize the dominance of Parliament and enshrined the days when Parliament danced to the Kingâs tune. This went against the civil war fought a century before where Parliament won its independence from royal control. You could also make a case that this idea went against Magna Carta and the evolving Common Law. In part this new royal perspective was a reaction against the cost of the 7 years war. During the reign of George II his advisors, Secretary of State William Pitt and First Lord of the Treasury Thomas Pelham-Holles, were ânotâ supportive of raising taxes to pay for the war, but with the reign of George III the concept of raising taxes to pay for the war came to the fore. This laid the foundation for a changing relationship over the next 16 years with the colonies. The events which were to occur in the colonies would likely never have occurred if the preceding had not happened.

Hope you are all having a fun October! Here is a picture of the Jack-O-Lantern's we carved this week. My kids are so excited to go Trick or Treating. My boys are dressing up as little cowboys. They are the cutest little cowboys I've ever seen! I will be dressing up as Dolly Parton, my husband is a Gold Miner and our little girl is his Gold Nugget. We went with a Western theme this year. We are all excited for Halloween. Our food menu for the day will be Pumpkin Pancakes for breakfast, Mummy Dogs and Apple Peanut Butter monster mouths for lunch, and Chili and Cornbread for dinner. Halloween is my favorite holiday, and we have been celebrating all month between our sicknesses. Yes, we were victims of the Swine Flu! We had it... it was an awful week... but now we are done with it! Here is a great last minute Halloween treat idea. It is so simple. They are super kid friendly...especially with the sucker stick.

All you have to do is make Rice Krispie treats by following the recipe on the box. Spread into a buttered cookie sheet. To make spreading a lot easier use a fork and dip your fork in cold water as you spread. Sprinkle with Halloween colored sprinkles. Let them cool completely before cutting out with your favorite Halloween cookie cutters. Add mini chocolate chips for eyes if desired. Stick your sucker stick in and you've got a treat! You can wrap them up as party favors, class treats, or just to throw into your kids' lunch box. I don't know a kid who doesn't like rice krispie treats. They are always a big hit!

Enjoy, and have a happy and safe Halloween! We carved this pumpkin today with a stencil I found online. My kids were just tickled to have a Mickey pumpkin. Tomorrow I am going to make some Haunted Gingerbread Houses. I will just use Graham Crackers, chocolate and orange frosting and Halloween candies. If they turnout, I will post them next year.

My passion is clear - I love Tea Party Books! As I read different tea blogs I can quickly tell the blogger's first love....mine is the table settings and tea pots for the Tea Party. Yes, I love the setting up for Afternoon Tea....and I love the books with ideas for that! I visited a blog a number of times that combined tea with politics. I thought, wow, this isn't for me. Melt in your mouth muffins amp Halloween Muddy Buddies

These muffins are my all time favorite! My little boy could hardly wait to get his hands on these. My mom used to make them regularly when I was growing up. I remember we gave this mix out for Christmas one year. We spent hours together as a family making the mix and delivering it to our neighbors. They are so yummy and yes, they do melt in your mouth! This recipe come from a book called: Make-a-Mix Cookery. It is filled with master mixes that you can put together and have ready to pull out for almost anything. Here's the one for this recipe.

Master Mix
8 cups all-purpose flour
2/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup baking powder
1 Tbsp salt

Mix all ingredients and store in a large airtight container. Us within 10-12 weeks. It's so nice to have this sitting in my cupboard.

Melt in your Mouth Muffins
2 1/3 cups muffin mix (master mix - recipe above)
1 egg, beaten
1 cup milk
3 Tbsp oil

Combine all ingredients. Stuir until mix is just moistened; batter should be lumpy. Fill greased muffin pan 2/3 full. Bake at 400 for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown. Makes 12 muffins.

Melt 1 cube butter. Make a mixture of cinnamon & sugar. Roll muffins in butter and then cinnamon/sugar mixture. Enjoy!

I know that just about everyone LOVES muddy buddies. This is a favorite at my house. We decided to spice up our muddy buddies with candy corn and halloween M&M's. They were a hit. The people were NOT told to leave, just that they could not use the loud-speaker system due to noise ordinances. The old woman who organized the event is convinced that this disrupton was political, and maybe even sexist (because she is a woman). Is this typical of these protesters? I do have good intentions for posting, because I take pictures of my food all the time. I just can't hit the next step of actually posting it. Maybe next year! For now, I am just going to do what I can. I am posting this yummy cornbread recipe because it has been so highly requested. I got it from the talented Melanie at http://www.mykitchencafe.blogspot.com/ . She has got an amazing blog and this cornbread is triple amazing! You will want to throw away all of those packaged cornbread mixes. This cornbread will blow you away. I served it at our annual family Halloween party over the weekend and got many compliments. So thank you to Melanie for sharing this recipe. It is moist, sweet, and delicious! You do not want to miss out on this cornbread. I had to make it again yesterday so that we could have some leftovers. LOVE IT!!!

Cornbread
From: Melanie at My Kitchen Cafe

Â½ cup cornmeal
1 Â½ cup flour
2/3 cup sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
Â½ teaspoon salt
1/3 cup oil
3 tablespoons butter, melted
2 eggs, beaten
1 Â¼ cup milk

Add dry ingredients, make a well and add oil, butter, eggs, and milk into the center. Stir until just mixed (batter will be runny - don't be alarmed!). Bake in an 8â square pan at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. This doubles perfectly for a 9X13-inch pan.

***I like to drizzle honey all over the cornbread after baking. You know this is a good cornbread, because the honey seeps right into the bread and doesn't just drizzle off the sides like the packaged cornbread mixes.

I like to make my dry ingredients and store in a ziploc so that I have it on hand and all ready to just add my wet ingredients.

This second recipe is for Omlets in a bag. My sister got this recipe years ago off of the Utah talk show called Good Things Utah. These omlets get cooked perfectly in a ziploc baggie and they are so easy to make. We love to make these for dinner. Our chickens are now producing eggs, so we are always eating eggs. This is a great way to get eggs into your diet, or to use all of your eggs. This is nice for your picky eaters out there. They can tell you what they want in their own bag...personalized omlets! Just perfect!

Omlets in a Bag
From: Good Things Utah

Quart Freezer Ziploc bags
Eggs
Sausage, Bacon, or Ham
Chedder Cheese
Green Pepper
Onion
Tomatoes
Mushrooms

Directions: In large pot bring about 3 inches of water to a boil. Choose how many eggs you want to eat. I usually always do 2 eggs for each bag, but we have done 3 eggs with great results. It just depends on how hungry you are. Crack your eggs into the bag. Chop up your add-ins and add desired amount in the bag with the eggs. When you have all of your toppings in, seal the bag releasing all of the air. Mash the eggs and incorporate the add-ins by squeezing the bag. When water is boiling put your bags into your pot. I would only do 4 bags at a time. Cook for a total of 12-15 minutes, flipping half way. They are done when you can't see any egg oozing. I open my bag to make sure they are done. Plop onto your plate and enjoy a perfectly cooked omlet!!! Loved these omlets served with the cornbread. I also love it with cheddar biscuits.
