Cooling Outdoors and Spending Time Indoors

Now that the weather is changing we will be spending more time indoors........ Here in Colorado we had a rainy summer which is unusual and we seem to jumping right in on fall.......this weekend the aspens have turned in the mountains........

Okay im going to try to make this relate to you. Lets say your parent work at publix and at publix they sell tea. Your parent is hired by the owner of publix who buys his tea from a broker who gets it from the Tea company. When you buy tea you are paying your parent his boss the broker and the tea company. All of a sudden comes your ruler from a distant land who has never come where you live and says HEY you can buy tea for a cheaper price directly from the Tea company. What happens is that the broker the boss and your parent are all without jobs because no one bought tea from them. The Boston Tea Party was their outrage against the king

Lemon Cream Cheese Scones for Afternoon Tea

Are you ready to do some baking now that the weather has cooled? The smell of these scones baking in your kitchen is divine! Here is what you will need:

Turn the oven on now so it is getting nice and hot! 400 degrees will be lovely!

You will need: 2 1/2 cups of sifted flour, 1/4 cup of sugar, zest from 1 large lemon, juice from 1 large lemon, 3 tsp baking powder, 1/4 tsp salt, 1/3 cup of butter softened, 4 oz of cream cheese softened, 1 egg and 3/4 cup of heavy whipping cream.

To make mix the flour, sugar, lemon zest, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Cut in butter using a pastry cutter until the mixture is crumbly. Mix the cream cheese and egg together in a small bowl and stir in the milk and then add to the flour mixture. I like to roll my dough out on a floured pastry cloth to about 1/2" and cut with a 2" scone cutter. Place scones on ungreased baking sheet about 2" apart. Brush with lemon juice. This recipe makes about 14 scones baked about 16 minutes until golden. Remove from the baking sheet and serve warm with lemon curd or clotted cream.

Keeping the Tea Hot

Now that the weather is changing we are more likely to be drinking hot tea.......... A tea cozy or a tea warmer work well for keeping that tea hot! Tea cozies come in 2 types. Some just go over the top like a toaster cover and others wrap around the teapot like a nice warm blanket.

Never put a tea cozy wrapped teapot on a warmer where a a candle could set it on fire.

Warmers are great to keep your tea hot - just be sure and only use a "tea candle" and not a votive and NEVER leave unattended for a long period of time

Most of our tea cozies were made by our senior seamstress.....Bev Meller who is truly the queen of tea cozies!
