Last night we joined friends for dinner at the Cracker Barrel and then on to see Julie & Julia......Since it is Pink Saturday I took a photo last night of the cookbook I purchased in 1978 which was her 4th cookbook (with my Old Country Rose pink teapot)! Yes, I remember "The French Chef", her television series and often watched her. I will say like everyone - Meryl sure captured that voice! It was amazing! The last time I saw Julia Child was that Christmas Special with Martha Stewart and Miss Piggy during the 1990's! They created a croquembouche. The voice was the same and the serious personality. Wow! All liberals/ leftists I know support legalization, see it as self evident yet their political representatives, all prominent Democrats ask civil unuions and refuse to even demand equal rights under the law. Where Republicans don't hesitate to push their ideological agenda far beyond what the American people are willing to take, Democrats who get elected, even if it's with a big mandate, bent over backward from the start in the name of bipartisanship and don't even genuinely fight for mainstream liberal/ leftist issues. Other examples include the wars, the patriot act, you know the list. Both parties of the duopoly are political instruments of the financial aristocracy, but the Republicans are the open advocates of big business. The Democrats pretend to defend the interests of the working people, while in practice serving the same corporate elite. This double-dealing role of the Democrats is expressed in their habitual spinelessness and insincerity. In an opposition role, the Republicans conduct themselves intransigently, while the Democrats bow and scrape, beg for "bipartisanship," and end up looking like the weaker party even when possessed, as now, of a sizeable majority. With a Democrat in the White House, the Republican minority in Congress today attacks and blocks administration legislation, using every available parliamentary device, like the filibuster. When they were a majority in Congress, the Republicans even impeached a twice-elected president, Democrat Bill Clinton, on trumped-up charges. The Democrats, by contrast, never availed themselves of the full powers of the legislature when, against their own expectations, they won a congressional majority in 2006. The British closed the Boston port and put into place other laws that are known as the Intolerable Acts. The laws were the Massachusetts Government Act, Administration of Justice Act 1774, Quartering Act, and the Quebec Act. The British hoped that by passing the "Intolerable Acts" they could isolate the radicals in Massachusetts.

This here is a favorite! For some reason this is what we always make for bridal showers and baby showers, but rarely for our weeknight dinner. It is so popular, and so many people have asked for the recipe, so here we are posting it to the blog in hopes that we can get more people to our blog when we say...

So now you can do the same when you whip this up for your next shower, party, dinner, whatever ... lead them to our blog! This salad is so versatile. You can mix and match this with whatever you want. However you dress it, it is delicious! The chicken is so tender and juicy when you marinate it the night before. The noodles are also marinated in a special sauce that makes them so flavorful. The only problem is that you HAVE to have GrillMates Teriyaki Sauce for this. I have had trouble finding it, but I know you can always get it at Target. This recipe takes planning. You want to cook the noodles the night before and have it marinating in the dressing over night. You also need to marinate your chicken over night. It is well worth it! this recipe will feed about 24 people as the main dish served with other sides.

Bowtie Grilled Chicken Spinich Salad

6-7 Chicken Breasts marinated in Italian Dressing the night before & grilled and cut into 1-inch pieces a few hours before serving.

3-4 boxes or bags of bowtie pasta cooked & marinated in the following dressing the night before

Dressing:

1 cup oil

2/3 cup red wine vinegar

2/3 cup GrillMates Teriyaki Sauce

6 Tbsp sugar

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp pepper

Mix all ingredients in blender and combine with pasta in an air-tight container and refridgerate over night.

Mix-In:

2 bags baby spinich leaves

red or green onions

craisins

mandarin oranges

sliced mushrooms

slivered almonds

cherry or grape tomatoes

Directions:

When assembling the salad, always add the spinich at the end, and only make the amount needed as to keep the spinich from going limp. You want to have the same amount of spinich to noodles. Add grilled chicken as needed. Add your mix-ins to your liking and serve!

***My very favorite combo is mandarin oranges, craisins and slivered almonds. Experiment and see what you like! I love the spinich mixed with the noodles. It really is delicious! Enjoy!!!

You will need: 1 cup canola oil, 3 eggs, beaten, 2 cups grated carrots, 1 grated apple, 1/2 cup raisins, 1/2 cup chopped walnuts, 1/2 cup shredded coconut, 1 8oz can crushed pineapple - including the juice, 1 tsp vanilla extract, 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour, 1 1/4 cups sugar, 1 Tb ground cinnamon, 2 tsp baking soda
In a large bowl, mix the oil, eggs, carrots, apple, raisins, nuts, coconut, pineapple and vanilla. In a separate bowl, mix the remaining ingredients. Combine and spoon into greased muffin tins. Bake at 400 degrees in a preheated oven for 20 minutes! Makes 18 "Texas sized" muffins or 36 regular-sized ones (high alt: less 2 Tb sugar, less 1/2 tsp baking soda)

With carpeting being one of the most popular choices for floor surfaces in your home it presents many challenges for cleaning spots or spills after a party. When you have a beer, coffee, tea or white wine stain the proper mixture to neutralize the stain is a third cup of white vinegar, 2/3 cup of water and a teaspoon of neutral dish detergent. With pop stains you should add 2 teaspoons of ammonia to the mixture. Put this solution into a spray bottle so that it can be correctly applied to the stains. Do not succumb to the urge of adding bleach as this will only remove the color in the carpet and cause permanent damage.

When dealing with a red wine spill is important not to hit the panic button and run the risk of setting it into the carpet. The Boston Tea Party was a tax protest. Complaints over taxes were one of the primary things that led up to the war.
