It is much easier to remove these marks immediately then to discover them months later after they have become permanent. One of the best investments you can make to protect the carpets in your home is to buy a wet vac or a spot removal machine. Owning this type of equipment will simplify the process of removing spots because it is important to use the right liquids as well as removing any residue left behind.

Most people when confronted with the challenge of removing a spot or a spill from their carpets will either use the wrong cleaning solution or the wrong method of cleaning. Either solution will run the risk of setting the stain in the carpet and making it a permanent addition. Using common household products such as paper towels, vinegar, ammonia, hydrogen peroxide, a spray bottle and dish detergent will remove most drinks spills. Making sure you always have these items on hand will simplify your spot removal steps and increase the likelihood of success.

The first step to follow when removing any spill from the carpet is to blot up as much of the moisture as possible with a dry white cloth or paper towels. Do not be impatient and start rubbing the spills as this may alter the design of the carpet and cause permanent damage. If you own a wet vacuum you can use this to remove the excess moisture. Removing the excess moisture will allow you to go to the next step and attempt to remove the stain. It is necessary to mix the right solution for the type of spill you are attempting to remove.

When you have a beer, coffee, tea or white wine stain the proper mixture to neutralize the stain is a third cup of white vinegar, 2/3 cup of water and a teaspoon of neutral dish detergent. With pop stains you should add 2 teaspoons of ammonia to the mixture. Put this solution into a spray bottle so that it can be correctly applied to the stains. Do not succumb to the urge of adding bleach as this will only remove the color in the carpet and cause permanent damage.

When dealing with a red wine spill is important not to hit the panic button and run the risk of setting it into the carpet. Use a mixture of 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide and a teaspoon of neutral dish detergent. You can pour this mixture directly to the spill and allow it to sit. If this is done properly you'll actually see the red wine disappear before your eyes.

After applying any of these mixtures to the spill you should continue to blot with a white towel or paper towels. This is also the time that you can use your wet vacuum or spot removal machine to remove any residue of the stain. If the stain is not completely removed after the first attempt you should repeat the process and continue removing the residue either through blotting or vacuuming. When simple trick after following these procedures is to pour table salt on the remaining stains or wet spots. Table salt will absorb any remaining residue and in many cases prevent the stain from reappearing after it dries. After a few hours when the salt has dried you just vacuum it up.

Following the tips in this report can assist you in protecting your carpets from permanent damage. This can eventually save you thousands of dollars in carpet replacement and maintain the beauty and elegance of the carpets in your home. Using these tips can increase the likelihood of keeping the carpets much longer than you expect.
